Acceptance.

Acceptance | The action of consenting to receive or undertake something offered.

The famous proverb “ we cannot control the wind but we can adjust our sails” is a metaphor for the unpredictibility of life and its transient, evolving nature. Uncertainity can act as a stressor to our biology that has a preference for regularity and rhythm. In the face of the unexpected or unwanted we can subconsciously deny or mount resistance to the reality of our experiences, leading to a rigidity or a feeling of tumult within us. In the practice of unconditional acceptance of ourselves and of our situtations, we come to find a yielding, a softening to our experiences, not an opposition. We find a kindness and tenderness rather than a fear, and come to see the beauty in the ordinary.
