MOTHERING, CAREGIVING.

Care for the Body Afterbirth

In the tender time after birth, care for the body allows it to integrate the body-wide changes- though the changes of caregiving are not related solely to body- that occur following birth and through the cycles of caregiving to support healing and restoration.

Its a time where time, attention and energy demands can make it difficult to practice care, care looking different for everyone- and can vary from the restorative power of quiet moments to a walk outdoors.

The suggestions for care practices below require little time and energy yet have a profound impact weaving the changes of mothering and caregiving together.

01. Emotional Awareness. Emotions integrate mind and body. If you feel compelled notice what emotions you are feeling, where in the body and name them.

02. Body Awareness. As a suggestion spend time paying attention to the physical sensations of your body, including the intimate tissues of birth and organs. Notice without judgement.

03. Breath. Also integrates the conscious and unconscious. Calms, supports restoration, sleep, mood and hormonal balance. A simple practice is to place one hand on the chest, and elongate breathing out.

These suggestions are intended to act as guides only, as care is never prescriptive but one that is individual.
